Is Edinburgh Fringe truly fringe or is it “white boys in skinny jeans and posh voices”?

Edinburgh Fringe is in on the brink of a revolt because it’s becoming too exclusive and MAINSTREAM.   A group of comedians have joined forces to speak out about the festival which they believe to be catering for “white boys in skinny jeans and posh voices”.   The so-called “Whitehallisation”of the arts festival - dubbed after renowned posh boy Jack Whitehall - has led to established acts dominating the scene and pushing up-and-coming talent out to the fringe of the...

Abigoliah Schamaun: Badly-behaved Annie meets punk-yogi

By Dani Porter Half the fun of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is in the pot-luck nature of finding shows - the joy, for example, at unexpectedly striking gold (I remain in awe of physical theatre show Giant, 12 months on). The alternative, wading through the thick wad of alphabetically-listed shows for an exhaustive search, is nigh on impossible anyway. So you keep an ear and an eye out for recommendations, or you head to a box office and pluck something at...

Campaign group launch bid to open Vagina Museum in Shoreditch

A campaign to open London's first Vagina Museum has been launched by Shoreditch based Mothership Group. The museum will be focused on vaginas, vulvas and the people who have them and will look to rival a penis museum in Iceland as one of the World's only museums dedicated to genitalia. Mothership Group is this September launching a movement to actively encourage the growth of grass roots arts and culture in Shoreditch, in a bid to stem the tide of mass artist exodus...

Cancer survivor who exposed phony spiritual healer to appear on Bake Off

A new 'Bake Off' contestant is a cancer survivor who once exposed a 'spiritual healer' who claimed she could help cure the disease. Chris Geiger, 50, has written a book on surviving cancer and went undercover with the BBC in 2013 to investigate Dr Corascendea Cathar. Chris, who was treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma in his 20s, secretly filmed an appointment with the self-styled spiritual healer. In the two-hour session, Dr Cathar, who had no medical qualifications, offered him dietary advice....

The London Economic meets…The Horne Section

Alexander James Jeffrey "Alex" Horne  is a British comedian. He is the host of "The Horne Section", a live music variety show which has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4, we caught up with them for a quick chat. What can we expect from your new show? Horne Section shows are a mixture of highly-tuned musicianship and stupid stunts. We’ve been around for nearly a decade now so we have what are officially called Greatest Hits, as well as a...

The Defenders: More spoilers than River Song’s diary

Back in the early days of NASCAR that circuit of hard driving, pit row fighting, Richard Petty, Junior Johnson, pedal to the metal high speed oval track racing had two basic rules: try not to kill anyone, and the cars actually had to be street legal right down to working headlights. Other than that, go to it boys. As such, the Big Three auto manufacturers in Detroit released limited edition models specifically designed to hold the track at Daytona, Talladega...

The Title: The Story of the First Division

For once in my life I am going to write a book review like a proper football match report and put the final score in the lead paragraph. Scott Murray's history of the Football League's First Division, The Title is as fine a book on English sport as will be published this year. If I were you, I'd hurry on down to Waterstone's or W.H. Smith (other bookstores are available), buy a copy, then hide it away somewhere before Christmas...
