Picket lines were mounted outside railway stations on Saturday, with Aslef saying they were receiving strong public support despite the disruption the strike was causing.
"Jack Monroe looks so tired of listening to the absolute bullsh*t that's coming out of the energy man's mouth," wrote one person.
"It's like a perfect tsunami of absolute abject misery", local MP Ian Byrne said.
“We are very aware of the difficult environment many customers are facing and we will continue supporting them", the group's chief exec said.
Joshua Emden, a senior research fellow at IPPR, said: “At a time when people’s incomes are being squeezed, stripping protection from their homes, children and our energy system would be alarming and dangerous.
"Job insecurity, a poisonous workplace culture and low expectations leave workers trapped in poor-quality jobs and vulnerable to exploitation."

It comes as members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) at train companies and Network Rail will walk out on July 27.
