The foreign secretary declined to call his Afghan counterpart while on holiday in Crete.
Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokeswoman Layla Moran said: 'Dominic Raab must resign today. If he does not, the Prime Minister should finally show some leadership, and sack him.'
The Labour leader pulled no punches in his criticism of the foreign secretary's actions.
'Raab Syndrome: when you incorrectly assume that your own staggering ignorance is typical,' said one social media user.
The foreign secretary said several nations were “caught off-guard” by the speed of the militant group’s takeover.
"The Foreign Secretary shouldn't be on the beach on the very day Afghanistan is imploding," the holidaymakers said.
It comes as the foreign secretary was criticised in a newspaper report for allegedly avoiding quarantine rules upon his return to the UK from France.
