According to the Bank of England, higher borrowing during the pandemic is to blame for putting more businesses at risk.

“This is one of the reasons why we have staff shortages," Labour's Alexandra Bulat said about environment secretary's George Eustice recent statement to the nation.

"The last thing the African continent needs is a failed British politician," campaigning group Global Justice Now said.

“The UK has a proud history of being open to the world but we rightly expect our international partners to work with us to remove those who have no right to be in the UK," she said.

"It represents a senseless attack on democracy itself,” Patel said.

The union also said recent proposals from the UK government will "legalise exploitation".

The transport secretary also argued “cheaper labour” stops companies from automating British jobs, whilst insisting the government wants “people domestically” to do those jobs. 

“At the beginning of all this Brexit mess, we always asked the UK government what kind of future relations they wanted and they never can give the answer," an EU official has said.
