Restaurant Review: Omar’s Place

Summer, provided it isn’t a total washout, is one of my favourite times of year in London. It’s these long warm days that encourage us to explore the city: its various parks, terraces, rooftops and beer gardens. Considering the unusually hot weather we’ve had this year (that’s us done for the foreseeable, I imagine), I wouldn’t blame you if you hadn’t felt the usual urge to escape for a week in the Mediterranean, as many of the inhabitants of our...

The Joy of Sake to take place at Barbican Centre next week

Taking over the Barbican Centre on Friday 28th September, the largest sake-tasting outside Japan will showcase 478 sakes – all available to taste – accompanied by a selection of dishes from 14 London restaurants involved with this year’s unique event. Reflecting the city’s growing appreciation for the versatility of Japan’s craft drink, chefs from 14 restaurants have...

The Weekly Cocktail Recipe: Patrón New Fashioned

In 2016, UK tequila sales reached a record £173 million, driven by an increased interest in higher end agave-spirits. Wine of the Week: Réserve des Tuguets, Madiran 2015

This week is all about getting good quality wine at a really good price. Discount retailers have turned a corner of late, eschewing cheap and sugary bottles of plonk from around the world and importing better quality with a similar price tag. Lidl and Aldi frequently get the nod for their impressive cellars but this week we turn our attention to Tescos and this bottle of Madiran. Described by one reviewer as a “serious red wine for an unserious price”,...

Jägerbombed! Wetherspoons bans various EU spirits

JD Wetherspoon have decided to no longer sell Jägermeister (a herbal liqueur from Germany, French brandy Courvoisie and French brandy Hennessy Fine de Cognac. They will offer more drinks from the UK in a bid to crack down on drinks which come from the EU. The move is said to lead to lower prices across its 880 pubs from September 26. So no more Jagerbombs to regret the next day. Wetherspoon has already replaced Champagne with sparkling wines from the...
