Shadow justice secretary David Lammy said the party cannot support a bill that would lead to harsher penalties for damaging a statue than attacking a woman.
It comes ahead of a crucial vote on a policing bill in the Commons in the wake of the Sarah Everard vigil.
Party analysis indicates that the cumulative effect of an immediate council tax rise, an effective pay cut and a looming freeze to income tax thresholds will leave a newly qualified nurse with £307 less in their pocket by 2023.
“I think lots of people would scratch their heads and say ‘what is going on here?’
“Brexit just isn’t working. I am putting myself forward in this election because I feel, morally, no father can just stand by and watch the rights of their children being stripped away without taking action."
One Labour MP who disagrees with party line said: "It should be raised, along with a windfall tax on companies that have made obscene profits."
