Why are funeral costs rising in the UK?

The average cost of a funeral in the UK has more than doubled since 2004. If these current trends continue a funeral could soon cost more than £7,200 within the decade. With the cost of dying rising faster than the cost of living it's unfortunate for those on a tight budget. It’s getting more difficult to cover the cost of a traditional funeral. It’s hard to give an all-in-one definitive answer as to why funeral prices are rising faster than...

A Northern Soul exposes creative scars of austerity in UK’s City of Culture

When George Osborne initiated sweeping austerity cuts in the wake of the financial collapse it soon became apparent that the arts would be the first on the chopping board. Unlike hospitals, policing and defence the creative sectors don’t have the immediacy or even the public sensitivity boasted by their counterparts, and so with relatively little fuss cash spent on museums, libraries, dance and music was taken away. It’s hard to quantify the effect that has had on communities. Where we...

Restaurant Review: Rocksalt, Folkestone

Hybrid Manufacturing Combines 3D Printing & Machining

When we look at manufacturing processes, primarily we’re looking at two kinds. The first is additive manufacturing, which is the process of building things up. In recent years, 3D printing has become increasingly popular as a method for building components. It’s accurate, fast and cheap, which makes it popular for small and large-scale projects.
