Is Starmer driving out the Left of the Labour Party, or drawing a line under Labour's long-standing anti-Semitism issue?

Leading figures on the left have responded to the news of Corbyn's suspension. Here are some of the most significant reactions.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party said: "In light of his comments made today and his failure to retract them subsequently, the Labour Party has suspended Jeremy Corbyn pending investigation."

“I found this report hard to read,” Starmer said. “It is a day of shame for the Labour Party."

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Corbyn said that reform of the Party’s complaints process was “stalled by an obstructive party bureaucracy” and that the system was “not fit for purpose” when he became leader in 2015.

A long-awaited review, published this morning by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission, identified “serious failings in the Labour Party leadership in addressing antisemitism and an inadequate process for handling antisemitism complaints.”

"How much longer can we let these cowardly kowtowing Ministers get away with using money they know is long since spent by many local councils to justify their decision to let more than a million children go hungry during the holidays?"

It is an especially crucial moment for Jeremy Corbyn, under whose leadership the party was accused of institutional antisemitism.
