Review: So Me Beauty & Wellness, Clapham

Ladies, how many of you have been on a shopping spree, arms laden with high street bags, and then on the final leg of your spree you have quickly nipped into Superdrug to buy that £1 shower gel on offer and thought ‘two birds one stone, I might as well get my eyebrows threaded'? Living in London, one can forget that ‘pamper’ time is meant to be luxurious, relaxed and enjoyable. Nowadays I just think ‘when can I fit in...

Tories strip “right to equality” from EU withdrawal Bill

The Conservative party narrowly voted against Labour's bid to retain EU human rights measures in UK law post-Brexit last night by 311 votes to 301. Just one Conservative MP, Ken Clarke, defied the Government whip and voted for the motion to retain the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, put forward by Jeremy Corbyn. Civic organisations warned over the weekend that individual rights to privacy, equality, freedom of expression, fair working conditions, a fair trial, access to a lawyer and the protection of...

Study reveals fascinating inter-generational split over trust of economy

A new study has revealed a fascinating inter-generational divide over trust on the economy. Despite both parties being neck-and-neck overall, the Sky Data poll found huge splits between young and old. Of 18 to 34-year-olds, 62 per cent want Labour in charge of the nation's finances, versus 28 per cent for the Tories. Jeremy Corbyn's party also scrapes a narrow win among 35 to 54-year-olds, who favour it 41 per cent to the Conservatives' 39 per cent. But among those...

Three basic demands for the Budget

By Generation Borrowed Time  This coming budget promises to offer nothing more than the same gimmicks the PM already announced at the most recent conference. A conference that she would probably rather forget, and would rather we forgot also. There were a few policy announcements, if anybody remembers them from the conference rather than the letters falling off the stage behind her, the conference cold and some ‘comedian’. Policy announcements such as an unspecified amount put aside to deal with Brexit. However, there...

New report highlights art world sexism

A new report published today has revealed shocking gender disparities in the art world in terms of valuations and earnings. The research reveals that in the high-end art world, just one of the top 100 lots sold at auction in 2015 was by a woman, and none of the top ten richest living artists are women. By contrast, women on Artfinder sell nearly 40 per cent more art, sell their work 16 per cent faster and for every £1 million...
