Born in a unit at Woolwich’s Royal Arsenal, Hop Stuff Brewery has since become one of the fastest growing craft breweries in London. Last month, the brewery drew ‘Funding III’ – a crowdfunding initiative – to a close after just two days, with over 190 per cent funded and more than 1,000 investors having participated. Founded by James Yeomans in 2013, Hop Stuff is the only brewer in the world to successfully complete three rounds of funding via Crowdcude, raising over £1.5m in the process. With this, the brewery plans to grow its Taproom business from three to eight sites by the end of 2019, recruit more team members and export their beers overseas.

Speaking on the success of Funding III, founder James Yeomans said: “The reception to Funding III has been incredible. We had of course hoped it would be successful, but never imagined funding in just two days. It goes to show how much our message resonates with people, offering uncomplicated and approachable craft beer to more and more people. The funds will be pumped directly into our Taproom business, helping us open five more in the next two years. This platform of investors and funds position us perfectly for rapid growth and we’re incredibly excited to see what we can do in 2018”.

Moreover, Hop Stuff has recently announced the dual-launch of two new beers, Freudian Strip Vienna Lager and Double Dry Hopped IPA, in 440ml cans. Brewed with Vienna malt and Mandarina Bavaria hops, Freudian Strip is ensnared within a mildly disturbing can designed by Quite Good Cards. On pour, the amber liquid is topped with a foaming off white head, vaunting prominent aromas of sweet caramel, light roasted malts, biscuit, corn and some trace citrus peel. When tasted, the Dunkel style lager has a pronounced malt character, teamed with some flavours of sourdough bread and baked apple. Medium bodied and notably quaffable, Freudian Strip is well-balanced with a lingering, albeit slender, bitterness and a dry finish.
