Joining the brewery’s Tempus Barrel Project, Beavertown Brewery has introduced ‘Light Becomes Her’, a new barrel aged apricot Foeder beer.

Inspired by the seasons, timed with the ancient pagan wheel, the new range of Beavertown Tempus Project beers are brewed with locally sourced ingredients, from fruit, foraged herbs, malt, or hops, each transformed using a range of slower brewing techniques.

On the launch of the new Tempus Barrel Project, Logan Plant, Beavertown Founder and CEO, said: “Tempus has been a passion project for us for a while, we’re relaunching it alongside two new tantalising beers to reach a different audience of people who are conscious about the planet and how their drinks and food is sourced. We’re hoping when each beer is sipped that people take their time with drinking it, carefully pairing it with their food. For us, this experience is about digging a little bit deeper into what the drinking experience can be.”

Described as “a product of time and the Autumn harvest,” Light Becomes Her has been fermented over a six month period, created in the classic style of fruited golden ale. It’s a slow process beer, crafted over several months and ready now for enjoyment as summer approaches. After the rich golden ale is brewed, it’s then moved to a large oak ‘Foudre’ barrel to ferment and mature. Once the live cultures in the wood of the ‘Foudre’ convert the sugars and sweetness into a rich, sour beer, apricots are added in to mature, sharing their ripe flavours with the liquid. Each batch of Light Becomes Her is also unique to the barrel it was brewed in.

Overripe apricot dominates on the nose, joined by aromas of lemon sherbet and a yeasty note. Those apricot savours continue on the palate, with plenty of refreshing sourness, plus gooseberry and some grape notes, which bring a vinous quality to Light Becomes Her. The sourness lingers on the finish with a suggestion of nectarine and feint bitterness. A perfect summer beer (if it ever comes).

Beavertown Light Becomes Here is available now from the Beavertown web shop.
