A new Protomartyr EP is coming. The Detroit post punk posse have announced the new release, titled Consolation E.P., which they recorded in part with friend Kelley Deal and will be released June 15th via Domino. Two of the four songs feature Deal on vocals alongside singer Joe Casey, including ‘Wheel of Fortune’, which receives a video today directed by Yoonha Park (who directed the band's video for ‘Don't Go To Anacita’).  The EP was recorded by Deal's R.Ring bandmate Mike Montgomery. Joe Casey and Kelley Deal had...

Kagoule sign to Alcopop! Records for second album

Nottingham trio Kagoule will release their new album Strange Entertainment on Alcopop! Records later this year. The band will also support Drenge on their upcoming run of headline shows this month. With some time away from the spotlight to consolidate their early achievements and think about the direction they were heading after parting ways with their previous label, Strange Entertainment sees the band finally spinning together their disparate influences into a record that attempts to capture the sum of their parts. Commenting on...

We Are Scientists drop “fun-bomb” with jubilant new release

Brooklyn-based power pop troupe We Are Scientists have returned with a jubilant new release that comes as welcome relief amidst the doom and gloom soundtrack that seems to have permeated most aspects of our lives. The band's seventh album, titled ‘Megaplex’, sees the now renowned duo of Keith Murray and Chris Cain dazzle with ten brand new splashes of colourful and utterly addictive pop. Recorded at the Tim Wheeler from Ash’s studio much of the record bears a resemblance to the aforementioned...

GALLERY: Trivium showcase the best of metal’s new breed in outrageous Brixton show

Venue: Brixton Academy, London Date: 21.4.18 Support: Code Orange, Power Trip, Venom Prison Photos: Richard Broome (richbroomemusicphotography.weebly.com) Good grief, look at that line-up. After riding the hype – and subsequent hate – of a meteoric rise in the early noughties with Ascendancy, Trivium have, through sheer perseverance and talent, found themselves settled at the top of the pile once again, this time as elder statesmen of metal. This is no more apparent than on this later tour where Matt Heafy’s...

Breathtaking aerial photos make boats on lake look like tiny toys

These breathtaking aerial pictures show the sun setting behind a lake reflecting a line of colourful rowing boats in the stillness of the water. The tranquil moment was captured at the Cotswold Water Park – a collection of more than 150 lakes stretching over 40 square miles and straddling the countryside of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. In one photograph, the boats' brightly coloured hulls - painted red, yellow, orange and green - forms a chain across the glassy water with...

Book review: Tales of Two Londons – Stories From a Fractured City

Britain has seldom been so divided. There are chasms that exist between the left and the right, gender and age divides and increasingly notable wealth disparities. And if you want a microcosm of that, few places evidence it as potently as London. London today is embattled as rarely before in peacetime. On one side the city has flourished, cementing its standing as a world leader in business and culture. On the other, poverty remains endemic, homelessness and the privations of...

Book Review: Exclusive Q&A with Gothic fiction novelist, Katja Brown

The perfect age to write a novel is 50, according to a study of the bestselling authors of the past half-century. Unlike musicians, the BBC reported, writers tend to “mature with age”. But while it’s not as common for authors to land a publishing deal at a young age as it for pop singers, it is not unheard of. In an exclusive Q&A, The London Economic speaks to the acclaimed fiction author Katja Brown about the challenges that young people...
