In eight months’ time, when everyone’s doing their yearly round-ups and we’ve all seen exactly 7,081,346 Best of 2018 album countdowns each, music press will turn to April as the banner month for releases.

I mean, you were there too. Just look at the state of it!

In the space of 30 short days we had batshit experimental hardcore in the return of The Armed, a smoothed out and slappy as-all-get-out new one from stoner rock legends Sleep, and the long-awaited, under-hyped and utterly exceptional third album from Palm Reader, which sees the Notts lot finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Mitski and Xiu Xiu teamed up! Kimbra released a record with Ben from Dillinger Escape Plan! Even Cardi B’s on here!

And Cancer Bats came back! You can’t fault it.

Mark it on your calendars, folks, April was a properly good one.
