S**t in our seafood? EU raise fresh concerns over UK sewage crisis
The EU is now worried that UK's decision to dump raw sewage into the Channel could end up 'harming fish' and 'polluting seafood'.
The EU is now worried that UK's decision to dump raw sewage into the Channel could end up 'harming fish' and 'polluting seafood'.
It comes after dozens of pollution warnings were issued for beaches and swimming spots in England and Wales last week following heavy rain that overwhelmed the sewage system.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats branded govt plan “a cruel joke” and claimed their analysis of the proposal shows that by 2030, there will still be 325,000 sewage dumps a year.
In the last decade, there had been a reduction in investment in sewage infrastructure in England and defunding of regulators, with water companies left in charge of self-monitoring,
"This would be very funny if it wasn’t so true," said one person after watching the spoof clip.
It comes as it is claimed that Tory leadership contender Liz Truss’s £235m cut to Environment Agency ‘doubled sewage discharge.’
"So LBC has Rachel Johnson interviewing her father Stanley about the policies of her brother the prime minister. And some people claim the UK is rife with nepotism...:"
An amendment to the Environmental Bill was rejected by two-thirds of the MPs who are now calling on the government to take action.
"You have to blame the government for this whole sorry mess. The industry is out of control and it's our rivers and beaches that are picking up the tab for that profiteering."
