He said patriotic voters in places like Hartlepool would vote for his party because of their view of Jeremy Corbyn.
“I think being an honest broker and listening to everyone is actually a sign of strength and a sign of maturity,” he said.
"I think one way that I could be useful to British voters is they could imagine me as a ghost of Christmas future, as someone who has experienced a private healthcare system in the United States, but who has also experienced the wonderful NHS here".
The Labour leader said he would adopt a "neutral stance" in another EU referendum so he can credibly carry out the results.
