According to recent polling seven in 10 Labour members think the Manchester mayor would do a better job than Sir Keir.
The research also suggested that 69 per cent of Labour members would prefer Andy Burnham as leader.
It comes after Kim Leadbeater was chased and harassed by an angry mob in the West Yorkshire constituency.
An anonymous party strategist was quoted by the Mail on Sunday claiming that Labour was “haemorrhaging” Muslim voters because of “what Keir has been doing on antisemitism”.
Bercow said on Sunday there has been “no barter, no trade, no deal whatsoever” after launching an attack on the Conservatives under Boris Johnson as he switched sides.
“I am motivated by support for equality, social justice and internationalism. That is the Labour brand,” the former Speaker told the Observer.
“This is the first big Remain constituency by-election in England, and I think the dismal ‘embrace Brexit’ mantra may be at least partially to blame," Rejoin EU's leader has said.
It is the party's worst result in a parliamentary by-election ever, according to reports.
