The prime minister is facing calls to explain the purpose of a “secret” meeting with the senior civil servant.
Treasury minister Simon Clarke insisted the Prime Minister did not instigate the meeting ahead of the publication of the partygate inquiry.
The PM believes providing immediate relief for families would be a short-term fix, and the cash would be “here today and gone tomorrow.”
