What the Removal of the iPlayer Loophole Really Means

We all know and love the BBC iPlayer function but as with many modern technologies, there has been a loophole in the system that has, up until now, allowed individuals to use the iPlayer without owning a TV license. Most commonly this includes expats living abroad who want to keep up to date with their favourite programmes and under the old rules, you only needed to own a TV license if you watched television live – meaning programmes that were...

Calculate The Cost Of Your Bucket List

A new online tool has been launched which allows you to calculate the cost of your bucket list. Brits are willing to spend up to £10,000 on their bucket list on average, but with the cost of completing the UK’s ‘top 10 bucket list activities’ coming in at a whopping £18,519 that would only be enough to complete five bucket list items. Going on safari (£5,600) and walking the Great Wall of China (£1,139) both appeared in the top five...

FDI Figures ‘Misleading’

FDI figures that show the UK enjoyed record breaking inward investment have been branded misleading. New figures show that 2,213 inward investment projects were secured in 2015-16 - an 11 per cent increase on the previous year. This led to around 116,000 jobs being created or safeguarded - the second highest number on record, the Department for International Trade said. However Professor Nigel Driffield of Warwick Business School said that in the period that covers these figures the expectation among political commentators...

Has the Earth just been contacted by aliens?

A signal detected by a Russian telescope has sent alien-hunters on a huge search for extra-terrestrial life. However, was it really some type of communication by a real-life ET? Nobody is quite sure at the moment, and are scrambling to find out. A year ago, it has been claimed, a Russian telescope received a “strong signal” from HD164595 a mere 95 light years away from Earth, in the constellation Hercules. There is a sun almost the same size as as...

In the previous three years over 27,800 people have been arrested on suspicion of trying to enter Britain illegally. The figures were reported by the BBC and indicate the huge numbers of people trying to find their way onto UK shores and the strain they are putting on security services. The total number does not take into account people caught at ports and airports, who are dealt with separately by the Border Force. Also people who have overstayed longer than...
