Facebook refuses to ban lies from political ads after ‘disinformation election’

The ad strategy echoes that of Vote Leave in 2016, which used data harvested by Cambridge Analytica to target voters.
Huw Edwards welcomed the move, saying: “Good. My thoughts on this kind of stunt are unprintable.”
The BBC said the adverts were a ‘completely unacceptable’ use of its content.
In the past three days a number of adverts have been taken down from the site, including taxpayer-funded Government-backed adverts flooding Tory targets.
Facebook has removed the adverts paid for by the public purse targeting key swing constituencies.

The social networks says the lawsuit is the first of its kind.
Detective Sergeant Helena Congreve, from Northamptonshire Police, said: “I’m very pleased to see Longhurst and Bourne given custodial sentences for these very serious offences and that two sexual predators are now off the streets and behind bars."
