Caitlyn Jenner is facing a widespread backlash after she said transgender girls shouldn’t compete in female sports.

Jenner, herself a transgender woman and former Olympic athlete, made the remarks to TMZ yesterday, as she returned to her car following the “morning coffee run”.

She said: “This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school.

“It just isn’t fair, and we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”

Her comments come only days after new laws were passed in Florida that would restrict girls’ sports team access exclusively to people who were born female.

Dozens of other states are considering similar legislature, with laws already passed in Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia and Mississippi.

I didn’t expect to get asked this on my Saturday morning coffee run, but I’m clear about where I stand. It’s an issue of fairness and we need to protect girls’ sports in our schools.https://t.co/YODLDQ3csP

Reactions

1.

Medical organizations, feminist organizations, and prominent cis women athletes, including Billie Jean King and Megan Rapinoe, have all spoken out against banning trans girls from sports. There is no evidence this is a problem anywhere.

Caitlyn Jenner is dead wrong on this.

Cait… this ain’t it. When you’re on hormones and or blockers there is not an advantage. I ran track at the club level with college girls and trust me there is no advantage. I would have went pro if I was able to run the times I ran before hormones etc.

Caitlyn Jenner JK Rowling
?
rich white ladies who've come to dominate trans politics the last 6 years, even though they're both clueless about trans people & issues, & most trans people desperately want them to leave us alone.

6.

Caitlyn Jenner also supported Trump and the republican party when anti trans bathroom bills were being pushed for early in the Trump presidency.

She's rich, elitist, and seems to believe if she cosies up to the right wing they'll come for her last. https://t.co/1H15e2bKP1

Piers Morgan supported her comments though.

Good for her.
Courageous and correct.
If anyone understands how unfair it is, then it's surely @Caitlyn_Jenner.
Yet she will be new be destroyed by the trans lobby for stating the obvious. https://t.co/WfPkQlmAR6
