Inspired by the home cooking and roadside stalls of Sri Lanka and South India, Hoppers is set to raise funds for the victims of recent flooding in Kerala, this weekend.

On Sunday 2nd September, the Soho restaurant will serve a traditional Keralan lunch, with all proceeds raised donated to the Plan India charity. Guests will be served an entirely vegetarian, sadya-style meal. This sadya feast will feature classics such as Yam Avial with coconut and curry leaf; Pumpkin and Cow Pea Curry; a sour Raw Banana Kaalan with yoghurt; Drumstick Sambhar with lentils and tamarind; Tomato Rasam; and a selection of house pickles and condiments. This will be followed by sweet Payasams for dessert.

Moreover, the restaurant will also auction a feast for eight guests at the St Christoper’s Place restaurant, which opened last year, via Instagram. Popular dishes from the restaurant’s recently-launched family feasts offering includes lamb shoulder and fish head kari, plus a new punch pot trolley.

Hoppers restaurants will also be collecting £1 from every bill in September to donate the cause.

Speaking on the restaurant’s upcoming fundraising plans, Director Karan Gokani said:

“We were devastated to hear about the recent floods – lots of our staff are from Kerala, and so much of our food at Hoppers is inspired by the area’s culture and cuisine, so this is a cause very close to our heart. Our sadya is a way for us to give something back to that community at its time of need.”

Hoppers will seat guests on a first come, first served basis, from 12noon to 5pm on Sunday 2nd September. The sadya feast will be priced at £30 a head, with guests given the option to contribute in excess. Further information can be found here.

Hoppers Soho can be found at 49 Frith Street, London, W1D 4SG.
