Activate, the Conservative’s imitation of Momentum, has folded after just eight months.

The political movement was set up to engage young people in centre-right politics but has struggled to make any headway since it was launched in August last year.

High membership fees, homophobic WhatsApp conversations and lavish meetings are highlight’s of the organisation’s short-lived existence.

Many have argued that the group was doomed from the start having been set the impossible mission of becoming the vehicle for a conservative mass movement that never existed.

A visit to the Activate website returns a ‘404’ error – while the group’s Twitter account now shows only a single tweet under a revised description of ‘The artist formerly known as’ saying:

Well, that was fun.

Momentum currently boasts a membership of over 40,000 people with the aim of “transforming the Labour Party, our communities and Britain in the interests of the many, not the few”.

The group have strong links to Jeremy Corbyn who relied on their grassroots support in the General Election in 2017 and local elections this year.
