The former Home Secretary had resigned from the Cabinet in solidarity with 21 Conservatives who were sacked from the whip for voting to prevent a no-deal Brexit in September.
He predicts there could be more than 100 MPs that do not belong to either of the big two - which effectively wipes out any chance of a majority for Johnson.
MPs vote by 438 to 20 to back a Bill enabling the election to take place on December 12.
The deadline for applying to register to vote is November 26 (or November 21 if you apply to vote by post from Northern Ireland)
