The Treasury could raise £20 billion through extra taxes in an attempt to tackle the cost of coronavirus, it has been reported - but the prospect of such large tax spikes prompted concern from a number of Tory MPs.
According to the Sunday Times, ministers are looking at raising capital gains tax and corporation tax in the next Budget, in November. The money could be reportedly raised from pensions, businesses, the wealthy, and foreign aid.
The chancellor has been urged to use targeted measures to stave off mass unemployment.
Shadow chancellor Anneliese Dodds said the move could lead to a “python-like” squeeze on jobs in some of the sectors that have been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
The chancellor is dubbed a "legend" on 'Sunak's Specials' and 'Dishi Rishi' promotions.
The discount can be used ‘unlimited times’ and will be available at participating restaurants across the UK.
