Labour left lashes out ‘bullying’, ‘factional’ Starmer as civil war boils over
Corbyn’s suspension seems to have unleashed pent-up frustration bubbling under the surface since Starmer took over.
Corbyn’s suspension seems to have unleashed pent-up frustration bubbling under the surface since Starmer took over.
This drop is partly driven by 2019 Labour voters, whose confidence in the party leader has fallen slightly following his suspension of the whip from Jeremy Corbyn.
Starmer said Corbyn’s comments that antisemitism had been exaggerated for “political reasons” had “undermined our work in restoring trust” with the Jewish community.
Corbyn was suspended last month after claiming that the scale of anti-semitism in the Labour Party had been “dramatically overstated for political reasons”.
Reacting to the news on Twitter, Starmer said that Biden had run a campaign "on the values that we in the United Kingdom share - decency, integrity, compassion and strength."
“They failed to learn. They failed to listen. And they failed to lead. The result is tragic – but all too predictable.”
The former leader has said he will “strongly contest” the decision to suspend him pending an investigation, which also meant the Islington North MP had the Labour whip removed in Parliament.
Looks like Keir Starmer is actually Captain foresight.
But signs of a split within the party have emerged, with Momentum holding a virtual Stand with Corbyn rally this evening.
