Canterbury stoner rockers OHHMS are back with two more monolithic slabs of depth-charge doom on their latest LP 'Cold'. Beer Price Index 2015: How Much!

By Nathan Lee, TLE Correspondent The 2015 Beer Price Index of cities from across the World has confirmed what many of us already suspected; London is a costly place to grab a pint. The average price of a beer in the capital is now £2.92 (how much!) making it the 13th costliest city in the World to drink beer and the most expensive in the UK by a long shot. As many of us prepare for our summer vacations, the GoEuro...

TLE insight: Turkey’s Black Sea coast

by Inka Piegsa I was lucky enough to live  in Turkey for four years, but I didn’t stay put in my nice little apartment near Bodrum on Turkey’s Aegean Sea. Of most interest - especially for those wanting to avoid typical tourist traps, is Turkey's Black Sea coast. Contrary to the harsh mountains of Anatolia and the summer heat on the Aegean and Mediterranean Coast, the Black Sea region is green, green and green, full of pastures, flowers, forests, grazing...

The Happiness of the Katakuris – Review

By Matt Keay To call The Happiness of the Katakuris a family drama would be to diminish its heart. To refer to it as a black comedy, however, would be to take away from the baffling and beautiful aspects of a film that contains a subplot of a Japanese confidence man claiming to be the illegitimate son of Queen Elizabeth II. Takashi Miike’s frankly bonkers 2001 musical/animation/love story/drama deals with the perils of setting up a bed and breakfast where the guests...

Force Majeure – Review

By Leslie Byron Pitt, @Afrofilmviewer In terms of adult mainstream cinema, the final quarter of last year was dominated by talk of the gender politics of David Fincher’s slick adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel; Gone Girl. The film, as well as the book, merrily sticks and twists the knife on the uglier side of a decaying relationship. Executed with extravagant twists and perverse cruelty, Gone Girl highlighted the battle of the sexes the only way America wants to these days,...

Sleaford Mods Release Bleak Video for ‘Tarantula Deadly Cargo’

The heyday of British seaside towns is long passed. Memories of a Cornetto on the pebbles and a sunburnt nose down the lido have been replaced by peeling paint, shuttered shop-fronts and piss-smelling sand. Allow Sleaford Mods to distill the scene into three minutes of bittersweet seaside town antics in their new video for 'Tarantula Deadly Cargo.' If the title sounds familiar then you might just have a taste for 70's B-movies, the band taking the title from the classic arachno-flick of...
