Watson calls for People’s vote while Thornberry labels PM “out of control”

Two Labour big hitters made separate TV appearances today and they didn't hold back with their comments on the current political turmoil in the UK. Tom Watson, deputy leader, went on The Andrew Marr Show and told the presenter that it would be“inconceivable” if a Labour manifesto for a snap general election did not include a second referendum. Marr asked Watson if he is in favour of a second referendum under all circumstances, to which he replied: "I think that's...

Labour take five-point lead over Conservatives

A Deltapoll survey commissioned by the Mail on Sunday has discovered that public support for the Labour Party stands at 41 per cent, with the Tories are trailing behind on 36 per cent. This wouldn’t give Jeremy Corbyn a majority in the House of Commons, but if a deal was agreed with the SNP, he could find himself in Downing Street Labour would win 307 seats in a General Election - 19 seats short of a majority - while the Conservative...

Investigation uncovers a “hidden mountain of drugs” used on UK chicken farms

An investigation has revealed that hundreds of tonnes of antibiotics are still being used in UK chicken production. This is despite claims from the industry that they have reduced their use by 82 per cent in the drive to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The British Poultry Council had claimed farmers had cut down their total use of antibiotics over the past six years from 81 tonnes to just over 14 tonnes annually. However BBC One’s Countryfile has discovered that figure...

Revoke Article 50 petition passes 6 million signatures

A record-breaking petition calling on the government to revoke Article 50 has passed six million signatures. The milestone was hit a day and a half after Britain was originally meant to have left EU, with the country's political future still uncertain. It is the most popular petition to have been submitted to the parliament website. The previous highest total of 4,150,260 was for a 2016 petition calling for a second referendum should the initial poll not provide a definitive enough result....

Vote Leave drop appeal against referendum spending on Friday in the hope no one would notice

Vote Leave has been accused of conveniently dropping its appeal against a £61,000 referendum spending fine on Friday as MPs voted on Theresa May's withdrawal bill for the third time and March to Leave protesters descended on London. The official pro-Brexit campaign was fined in July for exceeding its £7 million spending limit for the vote. The campaign said at the time the findings were "wholly inaccurate" and politically motivated, but according to the Electoral Commission the appeal has now...

Brexiteer tries to pass pictures of Liverpool’s Champions League parade as the March to Leave protest

A Brexiteer has posted pictures of Liverpool's Champions League parade in 2005 in a bid to convince people of the scale of this week's March to Leave protest. Brendon Hope used a picture taken outside St George's Hall in Liverpool after The Reds won the prestigious European cup as evidence that "the whole of London turned up to welcome the arrival of the March to Leave". The tweet, which has garnered tens of thousands of interactions, goads users into sharing...

MPs reject May’s deal for a third time – European elections now an “almost certainty”

European elections are a near certainty after MPs rejected Theresa May's deal with the EU by 344 votes to 285. A 58-strong majority defeated the government on the day the UK was due to leave the EU. It means the UK has missed an EU deadline to delay Brexit to 22 May and leave with a deal. The prime minister said the UK would have to find "an alternative way forward", which was "almost certain" to involve holding European elections....
