The new charges come as Britain and Iran negotiate the release of some £400 million held by London, a payment the late Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi made for Chieftain tanks that were never delivered.
"Yes, this does break international law in a very specific and limited way," Brandon Lewis said.
“I think what the UK is saying is that we’ve attempted to disrupt negotiations – they’ve actually been able to do that themselves without any difficulty, they didn’t need our help to do so."
