Established in Chicago 1988, Goose Island Beer Company will open their first European Brewpub later this month. Opening on Wednesday 21st November, the brewpub will occupy a site on Shoreditch High Street, serving a wide rang of Goose Island beers (including some previously unavailable in the UK: ‘Old Man Grumpy’, ‘Fog Bowl’, ‘Next Coast’, ‘Bourbon County Stout’), as well as hosting regular live music events. Alongside the beer, a Chicago-inspired food menu will feature pizzas, subs and classic American dishes such as chicken wings and pretzel bites with beer cheese sauce.

Following a month spent in Chicago, learning the brewery’s tricks of the trade, the Shoreditch brewpub will be headed up by Siebel Institute certified UK Brewmaster Andrew Walton, who’ll be responsible for the creation of various microbrews made on site. Speaking on the launch of Goose Island’s Shoreditch Brewpub, Andrew Walton said:

“I cannot wait for the doors of the Shoreditch Brewpub to open and am so stoked for Goose Island fans and fans-to-be to see what we have in store. I’ve been working on some crazy delicious microbrews that’ll be available exclusively at our Shoreditch Brewpub. I know London has always held a special place in Goose Island’s history, and I can’t wait for us to make our mark on British beer culture, creating a new experience in the heart of east London, where foodies, beer drinkers and music lovers alike can join together in appreciation of a good time – and great beer.”

Launched in the UK last year, Goose Midway became available in cans this summer – previously only available on draught in pubs and bars. A lighter Session IPA with a relatively low ABV (4.1 per cent), Goose Midway is a tribute to Chicago, taking its name from the international airport.

Brewed in America with hops from Elk Mountain Farms in north-west Idaho, Goose Midway uses a balanced malt backbone and Hallertau, Amarillo, Centennial and Mosaic hops which lend a medium to low malt profile and medium to low bitterness.

On pour, Goose Midway has a light amber complexion with visible carbonation, capped with a fleeting white head. On the nose, potent tropical fruit notes of pineapple are joined by citrus aromas of grapefruit and mandarin alongside floral hops, light malts and an underlying waft of Forest Fresh air freshener. Pineapple, grapefruit and mandarin savours continue on the palate alongside some biscuit malt, backed with some light bitterness, ending with a slightly bitter, hoppy finish rife with continued pineapple and biscuit. A gentle, easy-drinking session IPA.

Goose Island Midway is available in cans from Tesco and ASDA stores nationwide. Further information on Goose Island Beer Company can be found here.
