A collection of 40 football shirts worn by some of the biggest names in the modern game are expected to net thousands of pounds when they go under the hammer.

A football-crazy fan has spent several seasons amassing the impressive array of shirts belonging to the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Carlos Tevez.

Now, his collection could fetch up to £3,000 when they are sold by Hansons Auctioneers, in Etwall, Derbys., this Friday (23/11).

It also includes Premier League tops worn by former Man City stars Yaya Touré and Emmanuel Adebayor as well as Liverpool’s James Milner.

An Argentina shirt belonging to Messi, which he wore during his country’s 2014 match with Iran at the World Cup in Brazil, could fetch £800 by itself.

Meanwhile, one worn by former Man United, Man City and West Ham player Carlos Tevez is expected to sell for between £300 and £400.

Luis Suárez’s Uruguay World Cup Brazil 2014 shirt is estimated to fetch between £200-£300.

Alistair Lofley, sports valuer at Hansons Auctioneers, said: “This is a rare opportunity to buy a shirt that belongs to one of your football heroes.

“Manchester City shirts make up almost half of the collection with Samir Nasri, Gareth Barry, Gael Clichy, Stevan Jovetić, Abdul Razak, Aleksandar Kolarov, Micah Richards, James Milner and Emmanuel Adebayor represented among others.

“Estimates range from £70-£90.

“Some are autographed such as a Wigan Athletic Emmerson Boyce shirt issued for an FA Cup semi-final match against Arsenal.

“We also have signed match-worn West Bromwich Albion shirts for James Morrison and James Chester and a signed Jack Rodwell Manchester City shirt.

“Also in the collection, is a Phil Bardsley Stoke City shirt, a Bolton Wanderers Mark Davies shirt, a signed Jason Koumas Wigan Athletic shirt and a signed Darlington, Rob Purdie 125th anniversary home shirt signed by the full Darlington Squad and match-worn.

“Most of the shirts are affordable with guide prices starting from as little as £40-£50 for a Reading Brynjar Gunnarsson match-worn shirt.

“If you know someone who loves football, you could bag the ultimate Christmas present for someone.”
