Conservative London mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey is in hot water again

It wasn’t long ago he he was accused of politicising the disappearance of Sarah Everard.

Mr Bailey has faced criticism after he said his wife and daughter “have to live in fear” in the capital but vowed to work to “deliver for the safety of women and girls” if he wins in May.

Liberal Democrat rival Luisa Porritt called the comments “utterly grotesque” following the disappearance of 33-year-old Ms Everard, while Labour MP Catherine West said: “This is really not the time for cheap, political point scoring.”

Battle Bus

Now it seems his election battle bus breaches London’s rules on toxic air, the Evening Standard has reported.

It came as questions resurfaced about Mr Bailey’s former charity, MyGeneration – and nearly £16,000 worth of unaccounted for spending.

Bailey had been touring the capital in the black double-decker, which is almost 20 years old. This means the Conservatives pay £300 a day toxic air levy to drive 20-year-old double decker in London

According to the TfL website, the £300 levy has been paid for the black battle bus – which has digital advertising hoardings on the side – for its use on Tuesday April 27, Thursday April 29, Friday April 30th and Saturday May 1.

He was aiming to visit “32 boroughs in 32 hours” and yesterday he was joined by Boris Johnson in Romford.

Diesel is a known carcinogen that stunts kids’ lungs. Can you confirm whether this has been retrofitted & is #ULEZ compliant please? #Mayor4CleanAir“

They then followed up with a further tweet writing: “We’ve uncovered the fact that @ShaunBaileyUK is using a bus that breaches TfL’s low emission zone rules to campaign. This is hugely disappointing. He is preferring to belt out high amounts of fumes and just pay for it.” #CleanAir#Mayor4CleanAir“

Thank you @BorisJohnson for joining me at Romford Market, on the final day of my 32 boroughs in 32 hours tour!

And thank you for your support for my plan to give London a fresh start.

Homeless

If that wasn’t embarrassing enough in a video posted to Twitter yesterday, he is shown telling a woman asking for money in the street: “I haven’t got any change.”

Someone is heard saying: “Shaun, do you just want to pop over here?” – before he turns his back and walks away.

The man filming the video is heard saying: “You wouldn’t give a pound to a homeless person? I’ll give her a pound for you”.

Mr Bailey appears to say “Good”, before walking away down the street, away from his polluting battle bus.
