French president Emmanuel Macron has labelled Brexit the “biggest lie of the last 30 years.”
Speaking in Madrid on a state visit to Spain this week, Macron highlighted three different lines Brexiteers parroted, all of which proved to be completely wrong.
He said: “Brexit is the biggest lie of the last 30 years. Those who said, ‘we’ll be more rich’ – eight points less of GDP ten years later.
“Who said, ‘we’ll solve the problem of immigration’ – it’s more complicated than before. And who said, ‘we’re going to be a huge success in international trade’ – it’s even worse.”
Brexit and the UK’s relationship with the EU has become a hot topic once again in recent weeks, as momentum appears to be growing behind the idea of the UK returning in some form.
Last week, Burnham refused to rule out Labour putting a pledge to rejoin the EU in its next manifesto.
And following his Labour conference speech, Burnham openly stated that a full reversal of Brexit was one of the options he would consider as part of a reset of Britain’s long term relationship with Europe.

Numerous studies and polls continue to lay bare the devastating economic impact leaving the EU has had on Britain and the dramatic shift in public opinion on Brexit.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called for Labour to put a pledge to rejoin the EU on the party’s next manifesto, an idea Burnham is reportedly edging closer to.
Former prime minister and Labour leader Tony Blair has also recently called for Burnham to put EU membership at the centre of his 10-year plan for Britain.
