The French president's position against his far-right rival has strengthened in the past week, new polling shows.
Macron cited his late Socialist predecessor François Mitterrand who in his last speech to the European Parliament said: “Nationalism is war.”
“Despite all the grand statements… the British government continued to apply current rules that meant they did not welcome Ukrainian refugees."
The French president suggested an unvaccinated person is "irresponsible" and "not a citizen".
Le Canard Enchaîné reported that Mr Macron called Mr Johnson a “clown” and a “knucklehead” as tensions ran high over the migrant crisis in the Channel.
“It is sad to see a major country with which we could do huge numbers of things led by a clown," he is believed to have said.
The French have lashed out at the prime minister for an "unserious" approach to solving the Channel crisis.
Emmanuel Macron hit out at Johnson's Twitter diplomacy, saying: "We are not whistleblowers."
