This will be music to the ears of staunch Brexiteers, but will terrify everyone else. The EU council president, Donald Tusk, has said that there is only one type of Brexit…and it’s a Hard Brexit.
Tusk rejected Boris Johnson’s claim that the UK would end up with a better deal with the EU than it has now.
Donald’s remarks are the first time he has taken such a hardline against the UK. This comes as there are various reports US banks will be leaving the UK when we leave the EU once and for all.
Tusk went as far as saying that Britain can’t “have its cake and eat it.” Alongside this news, the pound continue to slide, trading a less than one Euro at some currency exchanges.
He made his statement to the press in Brussels yesterday, adding: “The only real alternative to a hard Brexit is no Brexit, even if today hardly anyone believes in such a possibility.
“That was pure illusion, that one can have the EU cake and eat it too. To all who believe in it, I propose a simple experiment. Buy a cake, eat it, and see if it is still there on the plate.”

Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.
Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.
Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
