An Air India passenger has reportedly survived the tragic plane crash that killed hundreds of people this morning.
The British national, who the Mirror have named as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, was in seat 11a on the flight that crashed in Ahmedabad today.
Over 240 people were on board with police later saying that they did not expect any survivors.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said: “The police found one survivor in seat 11A. One survivor has been found in the hospital and is under treatment.
“Cannot say anything about the number of deaths yet. The death toll may increase as the flight crashed in a residential area.”
Speaking to the Hindustan Times newspaper, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh said he heard a “loud noise” around 30 seconds after take-off before the plane went down.
“It all happened so quickly,” he said, adding he had received “impact injuries” on his chest, eyes and feet.
“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me.
“Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner heading for London Gatwick Airport crashed on the perimeters of Ahmedabad Airport in western India.
The plane was carrying 242 people on board including 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national.
However, barely a minute after the plane had taken off, it crashed into a densely populated area just beyond the airport perimeter.
