A man has died after being pulled from the sea on a busy beach, police have confirmed.

The tragic incident, involving a man in his 60s, happened on Tuesday in Sidmouth., Devon.

Crowds gathered as a Devon Air Ambulance helicopter landed on the pebbles at around 4.30pm.

He had been located by a Sidmouth lifeboat 800m out to sea, from where he was brought to land.

Despite the work of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin has been informed.
