Launched in 2003, Innis & Gunn has since become one of the UK’s most successful international craft beer businesses. Last year, for instance, the brewery sold more than 27 million bottles of beer around the world. Operating from a site in Perth, Scotland, Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp and his team develop and barrel-age an assortment of beers sourced to over 28 countries. Alongside Innis & Gunn’s flagship oak-aged beer – Original – the award-winning brewery’s repertoire also includes American and Session India Pale Ales, plus a constantly developing programme of limited-edition, barrel-aged beers. Innis & Gunn also opened their first Beer Kitchen – a restaurant concept with focus on beer and food pairings – in Edinburgh, during 2015, and have since opened sites in Dundee, St Andrews and Glasgow.

A limited edition festive beer for Christmas 2017, Frank & Sense is matured with gold, frankincense and myrrh, and comes already gift wrapped. When poured, the beer has an Irn Bru complexion with a fleeting white head and visible effervescence. Citrus notes of orange and oak are first prominent on the nose, complete with further aromas of floral perfume, grass, sweet malts and typical frankincense hums of pine and lemon. Notes of pine continue on the palate, as does the citrus. Elsewhere a refreshing, snappy hop bitterness is complemented by some spice synonymous with Christmas. Light bodied with good carbonation, Frank & Sense has a bitter, spicy finish: one of the better, less gimmicky festive beers on the market.

Frank & Sense is a limited edition 500ml bottle available here, while stocks last.
