Established in 1994, Sharp’s Brewery has become the largest brewer of cask beer in the South West – based in Rock, Cornwall. Also owner of the UK’s number one cask beer brand, Doom Bar, the brewery is also a proud sponsor of the Blue Flag initiative; with five pence from every limited release sold donated to the charity, to help protect beaches in Cornwall for the enjoyment of all.

True to the award-winning brewery’s Cornish roots, Sharp’s has launched Offshore Pilsner, named after rare offshore winds which create perfectly clean waves for surfing. Re-branded from its previous guise as ‘Cornish Pilsner’, now with a lower ABV (4.8 per cent).

Speaking on the launch of Offshore Pilsner, Sharp’s Brewery Senior Brand Manager, James Nicholls, said: “We are thrilled to be launching Offshore, a Pilsner inspired by the dramatic energy of our home on the north Cornish coast and our passion for surfing. At Sharp’s we are always striving for perfection, whether it’s waves or beer, and in Offshore we have created a super clean, flavoursome, world class Pilsner to delight and refresh our drinkers”.

Ensnared in 330 millilitre cans designed by Neil Canning (a contemporary British artist renowned for his dramatic landscape paintings), Offshore Pilsner is brewed with Czech yeast and a blend of continental hops. On pour, the beer is straw-coloured with a fleeting white head and medium carbonation. On the nose, aromas of honey, lemon peel, light roasted malt, sourdough bread, apple and some tropical fruit. Notes of toasted malt and apple continue on the palate, backed with a slight herbal note, but the flavour of freshly-baked sourdough bread is most prominent in this light-bodied, refreshing pilsner. Further yeasty bread savours are also prevalent throughout the clean, brisk finish.

Sharp’s Brewery Offshore Pilsner is currently available from the Sharp’s Brewery shop, and from supermarkets nationwide.
