Innis & Gunn has become one of the UK’s most successful international craft beer businesses since launching in 2003. In 2016, for instance, the brewery sold more than 27 million bottles of beer around the world.

Operating from a site in Perth, Scotland, Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp and his team develop and barrel-age an assortment of beers sourced to over 28 countries. In addition to their core range, Innis & Gunn also brew a constantly developing programme of limited-edition, barrel-aged beers. The brewery also opened their first Beer Kitchen – a restaurant concept with focus on beer and food pairings – in Edinburgh during 2015, and have since opened sites in Dundee, St Andrews and Glasgow.

Constantly plotting to expanding its core range and IPA line-up, Innis & Gunn has recently launched a new 330ml can format for Gunnpowder IPA. Brewed with Cascade, Centennial and Mandarin hops, Gunnpowder IPA is light bronze, rife with aromas of orange juice, resinous pine and grapefruit rind. Further notes of light roasted malt and caramel are also prominent on the nose. The orange and grapefruit elements continue on the palate, lending the beer it’s quaffable juiciness and a refreshing bitterness typical of IPA. Elsewhere, some more caramel also prevails on the tongue, accompanying a lingering, bittersweet finish. While Gunnpowder IPA isn’t particularly mind-blowing, it’s a pleasant, well-made IPA. A good balance between ferocious hoppiness and sweet Munich malt also makes Gunnpowder IPA a particularly easy-drinking IPA.

Gunnpowder IPA is available on draught from Innis & Gunn’s Beer Kitchens, and in a 330ml bottle or cans online from innisandgunn.com.
