Royal Berkshire tops England’s strip club and nightclub league tables, but you may be surprised where you’ll find London on the list

The royal county of Berkshire might be home to Windsor Castle but it’s also the county with the most strip clubs and nightclubs per capita in the whole of England.

A comprehensive study of all 576 listed strip clubs in England found that Berkshire, with 17 strip clubs and a population of approximately 154,000 people, has way more per capita (11.038 per 100,000) than any other county in England.

In contrast, London sits way down the list in 18th place with its 104 strip clubs and population of 7,813,600, giving the capital a score of 1.331 strip clubs per 100,000 inhabitants.

Behind Berkshire on the strip club league table put together by PissUp.com, are Bedfordshire and Lancashire.

Like Berkshire, Bedfordshire sits on the outskirts of London. The county has 11 strip clubs and a population of 255,200 (4.31 per 100,000), whilst Lancashire, to the north of Manchester, has 30 strip clubs for its population of 1,169,300 people to consider visiting (2.565 per 100,000).

Rasmus Christiansen of stag party organisers PissUp.com, who commissioned the research, has his theory on the findings. “With big cities nearby but with lower rents and more space, towns in places like Berkshire, Bedfordshire and Lancashire are attractive to club owners and easy to get to for people going out partying. Maybe people visiting strip clubs just like to head out of the city and visit nearby towns for a night of titillation.”

The full top 20 counties on the strip club league table can be seen here:

Meanwhile the same research found that Berkshire also has the most nightclubs per person in England (29 in total, 18.831 per 100,000 capita). Again counties on the outskirts of London and Manchester feature highly on that list, with Cheshire, East Sussex, Lancashire and Bedfordshire all in the top five.

Recent similar studies in the US have found the Portland, Oregon and Tampa, Florida were the cities with most strip clubs per 100,000 capita, at 8.860 and 7.932, respectively, figures way below those of leafy, royal Berkshire.

Meanwhile, a recent YouGov survey on attitudes towards strip clubs in Britain showed that the majority of people are relaxed about their partners potentially visiting one, especially on a stag or hen party. The data also showed that only 26% of Britons have ever been to a strip club.

The survey of 1600 people carried out in June (2015) found that 69% of respondents would not be annoyed if their partner went to a strip club on a friends’ stag or hen do. If it was their partner’s stag or hen do the ‘it’s ok’ figure dropped to 60% who would not be annoyed, still a majority.

Men are more relaxed than women about strippers – 77% of males say they would not be annoyed if their partner encountered strippers on a hen party, but still most ladies (61%) say they would not be angry either.

On whether people think it has become more acceptable for women to visit strip clubs in the last ten years 51% believe it has become more acceptable, compared to 5% who say it’s now less acceptable.
