A report out this year found instances of one serving mother who was forced to go without a hot meal for days because she spent her last money on baby milk formula.
A union official said the NHS has reached a ‘boiling point’.
Simon Clarke, Liz Truss’s levelling up secretary, said in a radio interview the debate over nurses’ pay has ‘got way out of hand’.
“You are a public servant that should be helping people instead of making grubby suggestions about how they should live their lives", one person said in response.
New research from the Trussell Trust shows record-breaking levels of need, with one in five individuals referred coming from working households.
The Royal Parks also said teddy bears, corgi soft toys, balloons, lit candles or any non-floral items will not be accepted either.
They said food banks are having to cut back on supplying fresh fruit and vegetables and that volunteers are "overstretched and exhausted".
"Health workers helping the NHS recover from the worst of the pandemic no longer have enough money to feed their families."
