Police are hunting vile thugs who battered a homeless man and filmed his ordeal as they forced him down a bank into a river.

The shocking Snapchat video shows the cruel gang abusing the terrified rough sleeper as he holds out his hand and pleads for mercy.

But the thugs shoved him to the ground and bully him while taunting the man to ‘jump in the river’ and ‘go for a swim’.

The victim can clearly be seen to have sustained a cut to his face which is bleeding.

Online campaigner Robin Armstrong shared the video to his Facebook page.

He said: “This is like a horror film. Here is a terrified homeless man being forced into a river by a vile little scumbag.”

The video has now been viewed more than 240,000 times and shared more than 5,000 with dozens sharing messages of support for the homeless man reportedly affected.

Louise Williams commented: “How could anyone target this homeless man? Breaks my heart. Let’s hope justice will be done to those responsible.”

While Danielle House said: “I want to say I’m shocked something like that could happen here, but I’m not. This is absolutely sick.”

The victim’s face was blurred to protect his identity.

One person commented: “This has reduced me to tears. I don’t remember anything as vicious as this being carried out round here.”

While another wrote: “If that’s what they film then this will be the tip of the iceberg.”

A Wiltshire police spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of a video being shared on social media showing an assault on a man in Trowbridge.

“This incident was reported to us at the time and our investigation is currently ongoing. At this stage the victim does not want to engage with police, but we are continuing to reach out to him.

“We are also looking at whether there is enough evidence to pursue a prosecution without the victim’s engagement.

“We would like to urge people not to share these types of videos on social media.

“If someone is aware of a crime being committed then the right thing to do is to report it to police via 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
