An elderly woman has become the latest victim of a violent crime wave sweeping the capital after she was left fighting for her life following a street attack.

The 80-year-old woman was pushed over and suffered a serious head injury at around 2pm on Saturday afternoon outside a north London petrol station.

She was walking along Camden Road outside an Esso station when she was attacked.

The victim was rushed to hospital and remains in a critical condition, police say.

A man who works near the scene said: “We heard it was an elderly woman who was assaulted and the sadly passed away, but that night not be the case. It’s very sad.”

Police are reviewing CCTV from a nearby Tesco Express.

A neighbour who lives near to the police cordon of a small section of the pavement said: “We heard someone was assaulted.

“They’re just scumbags, how could any do that to an 80-year-old woman?”

Another neighbour added: “It’s very frightening, I have kids and you want to know what’s going on on your doorstep.

An elderly woman has become the latest victim of a violent crime wave sweeping the capital after she was left fighting for her life following a street attack. 

The Met Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as officers continue to investigate.

A spokesman for the forces said: “Police were called at approximately 2.15pm on Saturday, 31 March to reports of a woman being pushed over on Camden Road.

“An 80-year-old woman was taken to a central London hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

“A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

“He remains in custody. Enquiries continue.”

Kentish Town police tweeted: “Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance after an
elderly female received a serious head injury outside Tesco’s petrol station on
Camden Road.

“This occurred on Saturday 31st March 2018 at around 2.15pm and also involved a male who has since been arrested.

“The female, who is in her late 80s, is currently in a critical condition at a hospital in central London.”
