Reminders of Bob Geldof’s famous exchange with Russell Brand have been making the rounds on social media after allegations about the comedian’s past came to light.

The 48-year-old comedian and actor has been accused of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013, when he was at the height of his fame working for the BBC, Channel 4 and starring in Hollywood films.

Brand vehemently denies the allegations, which also include claims of controlling, abusive and predatory behaviour, and said, in a video posted online on Friday night, that all of his relationships have been “consensual”.

In 2006, Brand presented Geldof with the Hero of the Year award at the 2006 NME awards.

Taking to the stage to accept his prize, the Irish singer brushed past Brand before insulting him, telling the audience: ‘Russell Brand, what a c***’.

Brand had announced he had won by saying: “Of course, the winner is Live 8 so please welcome to the stage Sir Bobby Gandalf”.

He also later joked that the reason he was “such an expert in famine” is that he’d been “dining out on “I Don’t like Mondays” for 30 years”.
