The drama began at around 8.30am this morning (TUES) when police were called to the Addiscombe area of Croydon following reports of a man threatening to “kill” people.

The suspect was found sat in a car near Blackhorse Lane tram station.

But when police approached him he “intimated” he was armed.

Specialist firearms officers were called to the scene in Pagehurst Road along with ambulance crews.

The standoff has been ongoing for approaching four hours, and roads around the area remain cordoned off.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 8.32am by a man who stated he would kill people.

“Officers attended Pagehurst Road near the junction with Addiscombe Road.

“A man was found in a car at the location and when approached he intimated he had a firearm.
