I am sure by now most of us have seen, board meetings, Voice over internet protocol calls and deals brokered online, if not in person at least in movies. If this is not the case then I am sure you have used services such as Apple’s FaceTime, Microsoft Skype, even Facebook messenger. All of these services make use of the same protocol that any board meeting of deal broker would use.

Now I am sure you are wondering what type of protocol this would be, right?

Well, I actually mentioned it earlier in the opening paragraph. Yes, I am talking about VOIP or as I referred to it earlier as Voice over Internet Protocol.

What is VOIP?

VoIP, as it is formally know, is the set of rules that all programs have to have to make use of on the internet for communication via videophone or telephone.

Why is VoIP so important?

Without VoIP internet calls would not be possible. Online communications would be limited to radio towers, which we all know are not exactly the most reliable and cost effective way to communicate long distance, or international calls, which are enough of a nightmare already.

It would also make any calls made over the internet extremely prone to hacking, which can then lead to a whole new list of problems in its own right.

To simplify things, without VoIP and the protocols that all internet phones calls are required to use, we would not be able to safely communicate online without our privacy and personal information circulating the internet.

So now that is out of the way, what has VoIP really allowed us to do?

Well, thanks to VoIP we have been able to accomplish a great deal. It may not look like much, but in reality how many protocols do you know of that have single handedly helped create one of the largest sports in the world, E-Sports?

If you ask me that is quite impressive.

Now VoIP did not just help shape the “Fun” side of the internet but it also helped shape the global finance market. Without VoIP and the software like SecureDocs, Skype, TeamViewer and countless others, we would not even have been able to think about setting up international business communication online.

So how can you make the most out of your online experience?

Depending what you are doing, it is extremely important to remember that if you are trying to make international calls be aware of the time differences. Having a good online client that makes use of VoIP is essential to online security and make sure you have a decent internet connection. The last thing you want to have is a broken conversation and delayed figures because your internet connection is lagging.
