Fisher FC, formally Fisher Athletic, returned back to their home in Bermondsey this weekend after seven years of ground-sharing in Dulwich.

Following a High Court ruling in 2009, in which the club were wound-up, it was decided that the supporter’s trust would take charge of club and it would be renamed and relocated.

Their 5,300-capacity Surrey Docks Stadium in Rotherhithe, in the London Borough of Southwark, was left redundant, slowly decaying into a workman’s yard with the only remaining stand supporting a raft of waste furniture and building equipment.

But this weekend The Fish finally returned home to a brand new stadium, which features a 3G pitch and clubhouse, thrashing Farnborough OBG 4-0.

More than 100 fans turned out to support the team and see the new stadium on Salter Road, Rotherhithe, chanting “we’re back in Bermondsey”.

Dan Feeney, a Fisher FC Board Member, told Southwark News: “It’s difficult to put into words, it’s an amazing feeling to see football back in the area. People have worked really hard and a lot of people really care about Fisher.

“Everyone connected with the club is happy that we have finally managed it – we are finally home! To see eleven people in Fisher kit on the pitch, to see people finally here is a really good feeling.”
