Swiss commentator David Lemos tore apart the 2026 World Cup, FIFA and Donald Trump’s America in a scathing monologue directed at reminding everyone about the issues surrounding the tournament while Spain lifted the trophy.
Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) commentator David Lemos did not hold back his criticism for the event as he spoke his honest mind with the rant doing millions of views online.
Speaking in French, Lemos said: “We’ve arrived at the end of this World Cup.
“This has been, without any doubt, the most commercial World Cup in history and one of the most politicised as well. Yesterday, Gianni Infantino claimed it was, and I’m paraphrasing, the ‘most beautiful thing to ever happen to humanity’. It has brought in more than ever before. It’s given us a magnificent satisfaction of beautiful moments on a sporting level and a great winner, but we won’t forget that if the stadiums were full, the prices that had to be paid by people who did not have the means to pay for their passion of football.

“Some were not even allowed in the country if their nationality wasn’t the ‘right one’ whether it be fans, journalists, or even referees, like Somalia’s Omar Artan.
“We think also about the unacceptable treatment of the Iran team who were not able defend their chances properly in this tournament.
“We also think about the Balogun case, sometimes we smile at the example from 1982 when the Emir of Kuwait came down to the pitch to cancel a goal by the French team; here we saw a president boast that he called the president of FIFA to cancel a player’s suspension.
“A political move which put itself at the heart of the game while the international federation says they wanted to put sport above everything.
“Clearly this only goes so far, in a World Cup which has seen all the matches played in four quarters and a half time which has lasted 30 minutes.
“Like Alain Berset [Secretary General of the Council of Europe and former Swiss president] said in the last few hours, ‘crisis has two names, money and power, he asks in the name of the European Council a third half-time in which integrity should be reflected upon.
“For many today, there is a crisis of confidence between the actors of this sport and the international federation.”
