Business Confidence Drops to Four-Year Low

Business confidence has dropped to a four-year low following Britain's vote to leave the EU, with the outlook for demand, employment and investment weaker across all sectors of the economy. The service sector saw the biggest fall, down by a sizeable 30 points  across hospitality and leisure, retail and wholesale, business and other services. The Lloyds' Business in Britain report found more than a quarter of companies said the main threat to growth in the next six months was economic...

Photosynthesis for Humans! Study Shows Men’s Libido can be Boosted by Light

We are all aware of how photosynthesis converts light into chemical for plants and other organisms, but new research suggests it could have a similar effect on men! According to a University of Siena study, exposure to light can help boost the levels of testosterone in men and increase sexual satisfaction. The university recruited 38 men who have been diagnosed with having low libidos, splitting them in to two groups with varying degrees of exposure to light. The researchers found the men that spent...

Pelvic Foor-ed: Study Shows How Clueless British Blokes Are About their Partner’s Health

What in god's name is a pelvic floor? Is that some sort of new dance move I'm not aware of? Is it a brand of kitchen tiling? Sanitary products? If you like me wouldn't know where to start when it comes to terms such as pelvic floor and Kegal, and if you think mapping out a woman's 'time of the month' is like deconstructing the fibonacci code then don't worry. You're not alone. A new study has revealed four in ten...

DVD Review: Level Up

Review by Leslie Byron Pitt/@Afrofilmviewer Ten minutes into Level Up, you can already feel the threads unravel from its tapestry. Anyone with a toe in the waters of pop culture can already see the similarities of Level Up with recent feature Nerve (2016). In fact, the film doesn’t feel too dissimilar from half-forgotten Shia LaBeouf vehicle Eagle Eye (2008), while the film’s overall redemptive lessons learnt lie in the same bed as David Fincher’s The Game (1997). This isn’t a...

Blu-Ray Review: A Hologram for the King

Review by Leslie Byron Pitt/@Afroilmviewer Despite featuring the ever affable Tom Hanks and adapted from a well-known and enjoyed author, A Hologram for the King (novel by Dave Eggers) received a rather muted reception when realised earlier this year. The film was only really rivalled by Sing Street in the U.K and received a limited release in the U.S. Even in his lesser noted films, the appearance of Hanks on the poster has often been enough reassurance to get at...

What’s the Alternative to Capitalism?

By Michael Smith, Initiatives of Change Winston Churchill famously said: “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent vice of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” So if the point of economic systems is to help create personal wealth, you could argue that capitalism is working very well indeed. For some people, at least. But the global economy is all pervasive, affecting the daily lives of all of us in one way or another,...
