Andrew Bridgen says he was “whacked from behind” by a Conservative MP in Portcullis House following a row over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The MP for North West Leicestershire, who was expelled from the Tory Party after he compared the Covid-19 vaccines to the Holocaust, has told the political blog Guido Fawkes that he was physically accosted today over an article in the Express at the weekend.
In it, Bridgen described Crispin Blunt as a “Hamas apologist” after he warned that the British government could be complicit in war crimes in Gaza if it does not do more to “restrain” Israel.
The former chair of parliament’s foreign affairs committee wrote to Rishi Sunak warning the UK is in “legal peril” on account of his “apparent unqualified support to the policy of the government of Israel”.
Birdgen has since questioned why he was kicked out of Tories for alleged “antisemitism” while Blunt, who said Hamas had “legitimate targets”, is still a Tory MP.
The two were involved in an altercation when Blunt came out of the Adjournment restaurant after lunch and whacked Bridgen from behind on his head and shouted “You’re a bastard” before walking off.
Bridgen says the karate chop to the head has been reported to the police.
